Help & support

How can we help?

Quick, plain answers to the most common rider, driver and business questions. If you can't find what you need, email us and a person will reply.

For riders

Riding with FairTaxi.

The essentials of booking, paying and getting help if something goes sideways during a ride.

01
How do I create a rider account?
The rider app is not on the App Store or Google Play yet, so there is nothing to download today. Once it publishes you will sign up in the app itself: tap 'Sign up', verify your phone number with an SMS code, and the app will guide you through name and email. No payment details required upfront. In the meantime you can ask us anything at fairtaxi.ie/contact.
02
What payment methods can I use?
Cash, card on the driver's own terminal, or a saved card in the app. Saved cards are stored securely with Stripe and FairTaxi never sees the full number. You can add or remove cards from the Profile tab.
03
How do I cancel a ride?
From the active ride screen, tap the three-dot menu and choose 'Cancel ride'. Cancelling is always free in the first 5 minutes after a driver accepts, and free in almost all cases after that. A €3.00 fee can apply on saved-card bookings only once 5 minutes have passed and the driver has actually worked towards you: either the platform has confirmed they reached your pickup, or they had at least 300 m to cover when they accepted and have since closed at least the lower of 2 km and 60% of that distance. A driver who accepts and then does not move towards you is never paid a fee, and neither is one who accepted so close to you that there was no distance to cover and no confirmed arrival. And it never applies at all if the driver's arrival estimate has slipped to more than 1.2 times the estimate you were given, even if they have already reached you. Cash and pay-in-car bookings are never charged a cancellation fee. If we cannot confirm any of this from the data we hold, cancelling is free. You are never charged an amount the app did not show you first, so any fee appears on the confirmation sheet before you confirm. The full rules are in our Fee Policy at fairtaxi.ie/fee-policy.
04
What if I cancel a ride I booked ahead?
Open it from the upcoming list in your Activity tab and tap Cancel. Cancelling a booked-ahead trip is free whenever no driver has taken it on, and free at any time up to the last 60 minutes before your pickup time. Inside that last 60 minutes a €3.00 fee can apply on saved-card bookings, and only when all of these are true: you booked the trip at least 75 minutes before its pickup time, a driver has accepted it or is holding it for you, and at least 5 minutes have passed since they took it on. It does not apply where a business account or somebody else is paying for the trip, and it never applies to cash or pay-in-car bookings. It also does not apply if a driver has accepted and their arrival estimate has slipped to more than 1.2 times the estimate you were given. The fee is for the slot the driver held and turned other work away for, so it does not depend on how far they have driven. You are never charged an amount the app did not show you first. This rule has applied since 24 August 2026; the full rules are in our Fee Policy at fairtaxi.ie/fee-policy.
05
How do I dispute a fare or a charge?
Open the ride from your Activity tab and tap 'Dispute payment'. Add a short description and any photo evidence (e.g. receipt mismatch). Our support team reviews disputes and contacts you via the email on your profile — usually within one working day.
06
I left something in the taxi. What do I do?
Open the ride from your Activity tab and report lost property. The driver is asked to check the vehicle. If you can't reach the driver, email support@fairtaxi.ie with the date, time, and pickup address and we'll help you connect.
07
I feel unsafe during a ride. What should I do?
Tap the "Safety" button on the active-ride screen. It opens a report: pick what is happening, add context or photos, and submit. Submitting logs your ride details and last known location and raises a high-priority report for FairTaxi to review. It does not contact the emergency services, and no call is placed for you. If you are in immediate danger, call 999 or 112 yourself: the same screen has a one-tap button that dials 112. You can also share the live ride view with a friend or family member from the active-ride screen so they can see your trip in real time.
08
How do I delete my rider account?
Go to the Profile tab and tap "Delete my account". You will be asked to type "DELETE" to confirm. Past ride and receipt records are kept for 7 years to satisfy Irish tax-record retention; everything else (name, email, phone, saved cards, addresses, favourites) is permanently removed.
For drivers

Driving on FairTaxi.

Sign-up, documents, how the subscription works, when your money lands and how to filter for a ride home.

01
How do I become a FairTaxi driver?
Download the FairTaxi Driver app, sign up with your phone number, and follow the onboarding checklist. You will need to upload your PSV driver licence, the vehicle's SPSV licence and motor tax, and a clear photo of yourself. Approval usually takes a working day.
02
What documents do I need to drive?
Your PSV (Public Service Vehicle) driver licence, plus the vehicle's SPSV licence and motor tax. Each document has an expiry. The app will warn you 30 days, 14 days, and 7 days before any document expires.
03
When do I get paid?
Cash and card fares taken in the car stay with you immediately, on whatever terminal you like. FairTaxi never holds your fare money. In-app saved-card fares are processed as Stripe Connect direct charges to your account; once you've completed Stripe Connect onboarding from the Profile tab, Stripe pays those out to your bank on the payout schedule you set in your own Stripe dashboard (you control the cadence, and Stripe's first payout on a new account takes longer while it verifies you). Stripe's standard card-processing fee applies to those in-app card fares and is deducted by Stripe on your own account, itemised in your Stripe dashboard; FairTaxi adds no margin to it and receives no part of it.
04
What do I earn for referring a driver?
Earn €10 for every driver who joins with your code and completes 10 qualifying paid rides, with no cap. Every three activations also earn 30 free plan days. The invited driver earns 30 free days after 30 qualifying paid rides. From passenger launch, cash rewards are paid by bank transfer to the IBAN you nominate in Profile > Refer a driver or the driver portal, with or without Stripe. That screen shows earned, unpaid and paid rewards. You can earn before adding bank details.
05
How does the FairTaxi subscription work?
FairTaxi takes 0% commission. Drivers pay a flat dispatch fee instead — a subscription that makes you eligible to receive booking offers for real taxi journeys, never a cut of your fares: €60 a month, or an €8 day pass / €15 2 day pass. New drivers currently join on the founding offer and pay nothing until either FairTaxi has delivered them €1,000 in earnings or their free window runs out. That window is 90 days, counted from the later of joining and the passenger app going public, and a referral reward can add days to it. If you have referral credit banked when the offer ends, you move straight onto free credit cover rather than a charge; otherwise you pick a plan on the FairTaxi driver portal at driver.fairtaxi.ie and Stripe handles the billing there. Plans are chosen and paid on the web portal, not in the driver app; the app only shows your current plan status.
06
How do FairPlay points work?
FairPlay is a record of the work you complete and the commitments you keep. Completing a ride earns 20 points, rescuing an urgent prebooking earns 50 on top of the ride, and confirming a scheduled claim on time earns 10. Your points over the last 30 days set your tier, and your tier sets how soon you see scheduled and airport jobs. Tiers never change ride now work: live offers are not ordered by FairPlay points. The full breakdown, and the values in force today, are in the driver app under How FairPlay works.
07
What does cancelling or not turning up cost me?
Giving up a scheduled job before you confirm it costs 20 points. Cancelling a job you already accepted costs 30 points with more than 6 hours to pickup, 40 points with more than 2 and up to 6 hours, and 60 points with 2 hours or less. Letting a scheduled claim lapse without telling us costs 70 points, more than any cancellation. A no show at pickup costs 90 points. If something outside your control stopped you, email support@fairtaxi.ie with the date and the job and a person will look at it.
08
Can I filter rides toward my home or another destination?
Yes, open the Going-Home / Destination filter from the driver app and set your destination. The dispatcher will only offer you rides heading roughly that direction. The filter expires automatically so it doesn't quietly block you later in the wrong place.
09
How do I close my driver account?
Email support@fairtaxi.ie from your registered address or use the Help section in the driver app, and we'll close it for you. Outstanding payouts settle via your existing Stripe Connect schedule before the account closes; ride and tax records are kept for 7 years.
For business

Running a FairTaxi business account.

Booking on behalf of guests and staff, paying the driver in person, booking policies and cost centres.

01
We're a small B&B, not a corporation. Is this for us?
Yes. Concierge booking works with nothing on file: book for a guest, they pay the driver in person. Company cards and consolidated billing are coming soon.
02
How does billing work?
Payment is in person: your guest or staff member pays the driver directly at the end of the trip. Company cards and consolidated monthly billing are coming soon.
03
Who can book rides?
Anyone you invite as a portal user, with the permissions you give them. Every trip is paid in person to the driver, so there is nothing to reconcile afterwards.
04
Can I control who books, and when?
Yes. Set allowed hours, vehicle tiers, pickup areas and a ride count per period, per team. Bookings that breach a policy are blocked before they happen. Spend caps arrive with company-card payments.
05
Do guests need the app?
No, and nothing is sent to their phone. Reception books from the portal, sees the driver's name and the booking's progress there, and tells the guest. The guest simply pays the driver at the end of the trip.
06
How do we get set up?
Create your account on the business sign-up page in a couple of minutes, no card required. Prefer a walkthrough? Talk to us and we'll set it up with you.
